Observation - February 6th, 2021, Saturday

It is cold outside, but the sun is shining

The sky is striped, blue and white

I can feel the cold coming, seeping through the windows

The sun’s light through wavey glass

Snow clings to the limbs of my tree

Each flake a tiny prism from which the sun light leaps

And there is hope, today in America…there is hope

Observation - January 6th, 2021, Wednesday

It is cloudy in Minneapolis, a gray day in America

The capital is occupied by terrorists, insurrectionists

A coup de etat is being attempted in America

Shots fired at the capital

A woman rolls past the cameras on a gurney

Her face bloodied, gravely injured

Terrorists have occupied the floor of the House

The Senate chamber is under their control

Trump supporters flying Trump flags wearing Trump hats

A bunch of brown shirts, chickens come home to roost

The mob is fighting the capital police

Reports of flash bang grenades

The final process of ratifying the presidential election has been upended

The clock is ticking, they have five days to complete their work

Observation - February 5th, 2020, Wednesday

It is chilly outside, but not cold for February

The sun is shining through a cloud filled sky

Pale patches of blue speak of an early spring

Kitty is sleeping by the window as I write

I am listening to the news, it is a sad day

Donald Trump is to be acquitted of his crimes

America has become a lawless place, maybe

It always was a place of deep divisions

Where the laws are applied differently

On behalf of the rich and against the poor

Maybe nothing has changed at all, America

Is just naked now, reveling in all its flaws

Observation - October 2nd, 2017, Monday

Observation

There was lightning, and the bright crack of thunder.
At 2:00 am, my cat came to sleep under arm,
Rain was fall hard against the house, against my windows.
Thunder rolling across the city, otherwise dark and quiet.

The news was of a shooting in Las Vegas.
A man with an automatic rifle shooting from an elevated position in to a crowd.
Twenty or more people killed, one hundred more injured.
The shooter himself had been found and killed by the police.
The Sheriff is not giving details.

America is on fire, and breaking apart at the margins.
Storms pound our coasts, and millions of people are flooded;
Without homes, without power, without medicine, without clean water.
The occupant of the oval office is playing golf, and whining.

America is on fire.
